Improperly Secured Semi-Tractor Trailer Cargo or Load
Semi-tractor trailer trucks carry various types of load ranging from hazardous materials to large pieces of machinery or equipment as well as manufacturing goods which may weigh in excess of 10 tons (20,000 pounds). When a truck driver fails to properly secure his cargo, the cargo could shift around while driving for hundreds of miles and traveling over unmaintained roadways which require repair. Shifting cargo creates an ever increasing risk of rollover which is one of the leading causes of truck driving accidents.
Big-Rigs or 18-wheelers who are carrying loose loads, such as soil, produce, or scraps of metal under an unsecured tarp can result in the wind blowing parts of the load onto the roadway or on other vehicles traveling close to and behind the truck. Additionally, in an attempt to transport more cargo, a truck driver may overload his truck which adversely affects his braking ability and increasing the risk of the truck being involved in a fatal truck accident which is a wrongful death action.
